John Thompson has more than 40 years experience in the law enforcement and emergency management fields. Within EPP, John uses his expertise and knowledge to facilitate and manage the interdependencies between law enforcement and security professionals with emergency preparedness personnel to ensure needs are met on all sides.
John has over 32 years experience in the law enforcement and emergency management field. Prior to joining EPP, John worked for Kroll, The Risk Consulting Company, where he developed emergency operations plans, exercises and terrorist threat assessments. He is a current member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster assistance program, and has worked at many disasters including the World Trade Center and the Mid-Western floods.
Prior to joining private industry, John spent two years as the Director of the Office of Emergency Management for Atlantic County, New Jersey. There he developed emergency operations plans, exercises and conducted training. John managed the Fire/Police Training Academy, the Emergency Medical Service Training Center, and the Office of the County Fire Marshal. He was responsible for activating and managing the Emergency Operations Center for emergency and disaster situations.
Prior to his position with Atlantic County, John served in the New Jersey State Police for 26 years where he retired as a Lieutenant. He was responsible for the South Region Office of Emergency Management – 7 counties, 167 municipalities, numerous chemical and oil facilities, 3 nuclear generation stations, and 12 casinos. He assisted jurisdictions and the private sector in planning, training, exercises, and the development and operation of emergency operations centers. He developed Cape May County, NJ’s Reverse Lane Evacuation Plan and was instrumental in the development of Regional Traffic Management Plans involving 4 states.
John has also completed numerous schools and training courses, and has a long list of certifications. He has completed the FEMA Professional Series, Certified Public Managers Course, Underwater Recovery, Colorado Hazardous Material Institute, and is a certified EPA Hazardous Material Technician. John is a former member of the United States Marine Corp.
