Caffrey Presents at American Gas Association Operations Conference
Hammonton, NJ – May 2008 – Mike Caffrey presented “The Anatomy of a Tabletop Exercise” at the annual American Gas Association (AGA) Operations Conference held at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs in Phoenix, Arizona on May 14 – 16, 2008. The session was moderated by James R. Westervelt, Manager, Gas System Operations for Public Service Electric and Gas Co.
In this interactive session, participants learned the key steps to developing a tabletop exercise that will challenge their staff and put their plan to the test. They left with a roadmap that they can follow to develop tabletop exercises for their own organizations. This is an important development, because only practice can lead to efficient restoration.
Mike noted, “there are three essential components to a successful emergency preparedness program: a sound and comprehensive plan, the opportunity to practice and ensuring that your personnel know what to do. You can’t underestimate how important it is to exercise your plans.”
The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents 202 local energy companies that deliver natural gas throughout the United States. AGA is an advocate for natural gas utility companies and their customers, and provides a broad range of programs and services for member natural gas pipelines, marketers, gatherers, international natural gas companies and industry associates.
